Mount Eagle’s 10 Points of Pride
We are Proud to Be Eagles!
Mount Eagle Elementary School is truly a special school community, filled with bright and curious learners from diverse backgrounds. We are deeply committed to fostering a culture of collaboration between our educators and students, ensuring that everyone benefits from the shared knowledge, creativity, and connections within our community.
Come to School Ready and Excited to LEARN!
Our goal is simple: to prepare each child to reach the highest levels of education. We believe all students can learn, and we commit to fostering learning EVERY day at Mount Eagle. Our academic program is challenging, authentic, and engaging. Students are expected to explain their thinking and develop multiple ways to solve a problem whether it’s how to stop erosion, make a journey across a desert or how to draw a reader into a story.
Just like our Eagle mascot, students come to school excited and ready to LEARN!
An Outstanding Leader
At Mount Eagle, we are fortunate to be led by Principal Kate Kirkland, who was honored as the FCPS 2023 Region 3 Outstanding School-Based Leader. Known for her boundless energy, compassionate leadership, and ability to bring out the best in students and staff, Ms. Kirkland makes Mount Eagle feel like a family. Whether she’s cheering on student achievements, supporting teachers, or fostering a culture of inclusion and kindness, her impact is felt in every corner of our school. We’re proud to have a principal who truly leads by example! Read more about her recognition.
Purple Star School
Military families are valued members of our school community! Mount Eagle has earned the Distinguished Purple Star School Designation. Purple Star Schools are recognized by the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children for their dedication to helping military-connected students and their families.
Welcome Walks: A Back-to-School Tradition
Every year before the school year begins our teachers and staff head out into the neighborhood to visit each student’s home during our “Welcome Walk.” We love getting our community excited for learning!
Our Student Ambassadors
At Mount Eagle, we want our students to know they are welcome here. Our student ambassador is ready to greet new students, ensuring they have a trusted friend right away. He will even escort the student and their family to their new classroom to welcome them.
Global Classroom Project
Mount Eagle participates in the Global Classroom Project, which provides an opportunity for students to work with peers from around the world on authentic tasks and challenges. Our third graders are collaborating with students in Spain to design plans to advocate for more equitable access to healthy food in their home communities. Our sixth graders are collaborating with eighth grade students in Egypt to design “Ideal” Sustainable Cities for communities around the globe with high poverty rates.
Teachers from Around the World
We are one of a handful of FCPS schools to host ambassador teachers from the Participate Learning program, which brings in experienced educators from around the world to teach in U.S. schools. We are excited to learn from them!
Weekly All-School Morning Meeting
Teachers begin the day with a Morning Meeting, which is a time for students to connect with one another, share, have fun and prepare for the academic tasks of the day. Once a week, we come together as an entire school for an All-School Meeting that is filled with songs, sharing, engaging activities, celebrations and announcements. This weekly tradition helps us build our caring school-wide community.
Multicultural and Multilingual Support
Our bilingual and multilingual office staff members are able to help connect non-English speaking community members with the information and assistance they need to support their children and ensure academic success. Lily Delcampo, our Family Liaison, serves as a link between our families and our schools. Known to many as "Miss Lily," she works in our school and community to help families get the information and assistance they need to support their children at home and to ensure their academic success. In her role as Family Liaison, she represents a variety of cultures, languages, and races and is one component in our school’s effort to enhance family involvement.
Our Gardens Bloom More Than Just Flowers!
Thanks to the dedication of our wonderful PTO, staff, students, FCPS Get2Green, and community partners, we have beautiful grounds and garden beds on campus. Every Earth Day the community comes together for an annual tradition of planting, weeding, food, and fun. And throughout the year students come out to learn about the ecosystem and help plant flowers and crops. We have blueberries, peppers, basil, sunflowers, watermelon, and more!
Mount Eagle is more than a school—it's a community where we learn, grow, and make an impact.
